About the Author
Born and raised in the Panhandle of Texas, Rebecca Short earned a B.S. in Nursing from the University of Arizona and M.S. in Nursing from Texas Woman's University.
She has worked as a clinical specialist, instructor, and administrator in nursing.
Later she served with Mercy Ships International, providing aid in developing nations.
Although a nurse by profession, Rebecca is best known as a motivational speaker, teacher, and co-founder of Rock Solid Character.
In 2000, Rebecca's son Paul, owner of an adventure-based educational company, was taking a 25' portable rock-climbing wall to events and schools in Texas. He and Rebecca saw the value in the metaphor of rock climbing for children's education, and together, they developed the program Rock Solid Character.
Over 500,000 students in Texas have heard the character lessons and been challenged to climb the character rock. Counselors, teachers, and students have often said that it's the field trip they will never forget!
Rebecca began to see a greater need—a need for a complete year-round character curriculum that could be used in schools, homes, and after-school programs anywhere and everywhere, resulting in this book Getting a GRIP on CHARACTER.

Rebecca resides in Spring, TX. She is proud of her son Paul, owner of inSPIRE Rock Climbing Gyms, her daughter Christy, nurse practitioner, their mates, and her five wonderful grandsons, all of whom have a great GRIP on CHARACTER.
